Arborist Jobs Australia - Locations include: Sydney, Melbourne and Gold Coast

Arborist (or Tree Surgeon) is a professional in the practice of arboriculture, which is the cultivation, management, and study of individual trees, shrubs, vines, and other perennial woody plants in dendrology and horticulture.

Arborist generally focuses on the health and safety of individual plants and trees, rather than managing forests (the domains of forestry and silviculture) or harvesting wood. An arborist scope of work is therefore distinct from that of either a forester or a logger, though the professions share much in common.

Arborist is a very small occupation, employing 5,600 workers as of 2016. They work in many regions of Australia. They work mostly in the following industries: Administrative and Support Services; Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing; and Public Administration and Safety.

According to the Department of Jobs and Small Business, based on a Survey of Employers last September 2018, shortages of arborists have been evident continuously since 2005. Employers face considerable difficulty filling their vacancies. Shortages are widespread, although there was some variation in employers’ recruitment experiences depending on the sector or specialisation.

  2. Employers sought qualified arborists, with almost all employers having a minimum requirement of the Certificate III in Arboriculture.
  3. Knowledge of English Language, Customer and Personal Service, Chemistry, Mechanical and Public Safety and Security.
  4. Whilst skills can be improved through training and experience, the most important ones for a Gardener are Operation and Control, Critical Thinking, Speaking, Active Listening, and Coordination.
